1.  Cookies

1.1  Cookies are small text files stored by your browser on your computer when you use websites and applications. You can control how web sites use cookies by configuring the privacy settings within your browser.  Please refer to your browser's help function to learn more about cookie controls).   

1.2  Graphene never stores information we consider personal or private, in a cookie.   

This eliminates the chance of other sites reading our cookies and learning your personal or private information. Instead, we use cookies to help direct you to the appropriate part of our web site. For example, a cookie may indicate that you are a repeat visitor to our site. We will then use that information to present you with more informative pages customized to your preferences.   Our goal is to use cookies in order to provide a personally customized and easy-to-use service.

2.  No-cookies

2.1  If you do not want Graphene or other websites to use cookies, you can disable them within your browser.  

2.2  Then, some portions of the Graphene website remain still functional without cookies but not them all, e.g. because some of the contents are Adobe® Flash® Player animations requiring them.   You may also delete the only cookies of Graphene web site through your browser's cookie manager.  Be aware that this will reset your session, disable auto-login, and may adversely affect other functions on the CloudFlare® Content Delivery Network.

2.3  Synthesizing, Graphene use cookies in several ways, such as:

  •   Authenticating and identifying you on our websites and applications so we can provide you the services you requested;
  •   Keeping track of information you have provided to us;
  •   To provide you the Graphene websites and applications that you use;
  •   Remembering your preferences or where you left off in your use of an Graphene website or application;
  •   Measuring your use of Graphene's websites and applications so that we can improve them, tailor our websites and online services to your likely interests, and conduct market research;
  •   Understanding your likely interests. 

3.   Google Analytics

3.1  CloudFlare® Content Delivery Network, by mean of which these pages are being diffused Worldwide and made available, uses Google Analytics.   Google Analitycs is a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. ("Google"). 

3.2   Google Analytics , a website analysis service of Google Inc. ("Google"), compiles anonymous statistics on the usage of the provider's website as well as anonymous reports on website activity, and analyses the type and extent of website usage.  

Statistics are translated into graphics useful to evaluate the Visitors' interest into website different subjects.

The IP address is transmitted in a shortened form so that this data also remains anonymous.  

The data is stored in the USA: Google observes the data protection provisions of the US Safe Harbor agreement and is registered with the US Department of Commerce Safe Harbor programme. 

Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. 

You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser, however please note that if you do this you may not be able to use the full functionality of this website.   

3.3   By using this website, you consent to the processing of data about you by CloudFlare® and Google Analytics in the manners and for the purposes set out above.   Such cookies do not contain any personal information about you and cannot be used to identify an individual user.

3.4   You have the right to opt out of the use of your data for website analysis.    With Google Analytics, you can deactivate data transfer to Google Analytics using an additional function for your browser (add-on).   The deactivation add-on is available for download from Google here.   Alternatively, you can prevent data use by deactivating the Google Analytics scripts using an appropriate browser add-on (e.g. in Firefox).

4.  Data use through integration of additional services

4.1  The provider's website includes add-ons (plug-ins, page content from other providers) for additional options. 

When web pages are accessed, a connection to the relevant provider is automatically established and this provider receives details of the user, such as domain name, access date, http response code, website requesting connection, data volumes and IP addresses or parts thereof.    

No personal data is accessed.

 4.2  Facebook   ("Like" indicator): 

Facebook stores the data in order to associate use of the website with your Facebook account, if you are a member. This association is made when you are logged in to Facebook or if you save Facebook cookies on your computer.      If you actively use the add-on, for example by clicking the "Like" button or leaving a comment, this information is displayed on your Facebook profile. 

If you do not wish Facebook to receive this data, you must log out of Facebook or delete its cookies before logging on to the website of the provider. Facebook observes the data protection provisions of the US Safe Harbor agreement and is registered with the US Department of Commerce Safe Harbor programme.

4.3   AddThis   (recommendation):

AddThis (Clearspring Technologies, Inc., 8000 Westpark Drive, Suite 625 McLean, VA 22102, USA) uses data to allow you to recommend websites accessed (e.g. on Twitter) or to save bookmarks (e.g. with Google). 

When making recommendations or saving favourites, this information is saved and your recommendation/favourite is passed on to your chosen provider (e.g. Twitter, Delicious, MySpace) and saved there.  

Data transmitted by AddThis is processed further in accordance with the privacy policy of the company.

5.   Local Shared Objects

5.1   Technically speaking, cookies are called “HTTP cookies” but there are other technologies that can be used for similar purposes, such as: 

  • HTML5 Local Storage;
  • Local Shared Objects (LSOs).   

5.2   LSOs are used by the authors of files that are read by Adobe® Flash® Player and the websites hosting those files (learn more about Flash Player and LSOs).  

5.3   We may use HTML5 Local Storage, LSOs, and similar technologies for authenticating you, keeping track of information you have provided to us, and remembering your preferences (see bullet points above).  Learn more about cookies from the Interactive Advertising Bureau.


6.  Web beacons and embedded scripts

6.1   Web beacons and embedded scripts are other technologies that we use in our websites and applications, as well as in some of our emails and ads.

Web beacons (or “tags”) are bits of programming code included in web pages, emails, and ads that notify Graphene when those web pages, emails, or ads have been viewed or clicked on.

6.2   Embedded scripts are bits of programming code included within some of our web pages that measure how you use those web pages, such as which links you click. We use this information to improve our websites and online services, tailor our websites and online services to your likely interests, and conduct market research.  You may be able to turn off scripting functionality, such as JavaScript, within your browser (please refer to your browser's help function).  

6.3   Note that if you disable scripting functionality, some Graphene websites and applications may not function properly.
